Ancestry Saturday: 4 of 128

The most anyone can have is 128 fifth great grandparents.  In my research, I've  identified 60% (77) of them at least by name. My latest cemetery research stops doubled, though, the number of gravestones for those folks I've actually seen in person to four.

My fifth great grandparents' generation spans from a birth as early as 1701 to a death as late as 1857.  So, finding gravestones still intact and readable is going to be tougher and tougher with the passing of time.

Nonetheless, add Samuel and Aulice (Jeffrey) Woodmansee to the list.  Some long-lasting gravestones were bought on their behalf.

Highland Cemetery in the Village of Highland in Highland County, Ohio is where they are buried and where I found their stones.

Samuel was a soldier in the Revolutionary War from New Jersey.  They married in Monmouth County, New Jersey in 1783.

They were in New Jersey at least until 1797. They were in Highland County, Ohio no later than 1820.

Aulice died in March 1836.  Samuel passed in April 1837.

Here's the lineage: Their daughter Phoebe had a daughter Sarah.  Sarah had a daughter Columbia, who had a daughter Sarah/Sallie, who had a son Everett, who had a daughter Linda, who had a son--me.

UPDATE:  What's fifth great grandparents to me, is sixth greatgrandparents to my kids.

On my kids' mom side of the family, I've identified 97 (76%) of the 128 fifth great grandparents.  That means, my kids can already brag to know the names of 174 (68%) of their sixth great grandparents.  They've seen gravestones for three of them, with more to come in the future.

Now, you can see why I do this.
